Jet lag’s beauty

Saying goodbye to my parents was not easy, but I held myself together. They mean the world to me, and I would not be here in Florence if it weren’t for them. I am so incredibly grateful for their lessons throughout my life and providing an amazing childhood for me and my brothers. This is an opportunity of a lifetime, and I am so happy to be here in Florence as a student. So, here I am (up at 3 AM), writing to curious friends and family at home because jet lag has my internal clock all wacky. I am so excited for whats to come…

I feel like I could run ten miles right now, I have so much energy! I think it has finally hit me that I am 4,700 miles away from home, and I just have an itching to explore the city. The plane ride was long and my group flight had a layover in Amsterdam. There we walked around the airport, and I ended up purchasing a box of Stroopwaffels. Anyone who knows me knows I love waffles, but these are a delicious cookie in the form of compact waffle. With an assortment of different fillings (Salted caramel, honey, and syrup) they’re my new favorite snack! YUM

Once we arrived in Italy, we were met by the ACCENT staff and given information about our housing. This is where I found out I have a roommate! Her name is Kebron and she is very nice and beautiful! I am so elated to have someone to adventure with. She even committed to running with me as our host mother is a very good cook, and we’ll need to work off the extra delicious carbs! Haha

Florence is absolutely stunning, I am living a dream here and I can’t wait to share the rest of my adventures with you all. Orientation is tomorrow so I will know my schedule and hopefully start planning trips around Italy, starting first with the Amalfi Coast!

Ciao for now! -Aysha
